On October 7, Nir Oz was devastated by one of the most brutal attacks on southern Israel. Out of the kibbutz’s 400 residents, 117 were either killed or kidnapped. Among the 29 hostages still held in Gaza is the kibbutz’s oldest resident, Gadi Moses, who was finally returned this month. His return symbolizes the strength and resilience of Nir Oz, as they continue to rebuild despite the unimaginable losses.
Nir Oz has long been a cornerstone of Israeli agriculture, and the kibbutz’s contribution to the nation’s farming industry cannot be overstated. The arrival of the harvester (Feb 2025) is a crucial step in rebuilding this vital sector, helping the kibbutz restore its agricultural productivity and contribute to the wider community. Thanks to the unwavering support of JNF Australia and its community, the kibbutz is on its way to recovery and a brighter future.
