Erin Kruger is an exceptional young leader whose dedication to Jewish life, academic excellence, and community service sets her apart as a true changemaker. Throughout her time at Masada College, Erin has consistently demonstrated initiative, integrity, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact on those around her.
As Jewish Life Co-Captain in Year 12, Erin has been a driving force behind numerous initiatives that have strengthened the school’s Jewish community. She consistently delivered thoughtful reflections that inspire her peers at weekly prayers, events, and assemblies to engage more deeply with their own Jewish practice. Erin has also played a pivotal role in the organisation of the 600 Days Challah Bake, coordinating special guests, student participation, and the creation of an immersive, community-focused experience that united the Sydney Jewish community in a powerful act of solidarity. Further demonstrating her commitment to living Jewish values, Erin actively participated in this year’s Tu BiShvat celebrations by assisting in planting a tree, symbolising growth, renewal, and the ongoing nurturing of community. Her efforts reflect both leadership and a genuine dedication to fostering connection, awareness, and meaningful traditions within the school and wider community.
Erin’s commitment to service extends beyond the school. She has volunteered at Chabad for several years, teaching children after school and sharing her knowledge and passion for Judaism. She has actively participated in Pathways Camps, demonstrating enthusiasm and engagement, and has consistently encouraged her peers to reflect on Jewish values and practice in their daily lives. Her dedication to Jewish education and community has been recognised through awards such as the Nathan and Bessie Glaser Trophy for the student who proactively contributes to the Jewish life of the College in 2024.
In addition to her leadership and service, Erin has excelled academically with a focus on Jewish Studies and Israeli history. She has received multiple awards throughout the years for Dedication to Learning in Hebrew and Jewish Studies, and in 2025, she won The Ralph and Judy Davis Prize for Modern History and The Michaelis Prize for History Extension, with her outstanding final project assessing interpretations of the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict. Her commitment to learning demonstrates intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a desire to understand the broader world.
Erin’s leadership has also been recognised outside the school environment. She received the Australian Defence Force Long Tan Youth Leadership & Teamwork Award, which honours students who display outstanding leadership and teamwork, alongside values such as determination, compassion, and mateship. This accolade reflects her ability to work collaboratively, motivate others, and create meaningful outcomes for her community. She also consistently attends important Jewish Sydney events, such as the October 7 2024 vigil event.
Through her consistent dedication to Jewish life, academic excellence, and community service, Erin exemplifies the qualities of a true changemaker. She inspires her peers, strengthens the Jewish community, and embodies the values of integrity, compassion, and leadership that the JNF Jewish Changemaker Awards seek to celebrate.
