We are delighted to welcome Yvonne and Peter Halasz to our next morning tea. You will hear two extraordinary individuals whose lives are a powerful testament to courage, resilience, and hope.
Yvonne Halasz was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1942, amidst the horrors of World War II. As a baby, she endured unimaginable danger: her father was sent to a labour camp, and in 1944, Yvonne and her family were forced onto a cattle train with other Jewish families. In an astonishing act of bravery, her mother threw Yvonne from the moving train to save her life. Separated from her father, who ultimately perished in Bergen-Belsen, Yvonne and her mother fled Hungary in 1948, seeking safety and a new beginning.
Peter Halasz also survived the traumas of Hungary, enduring the Holocaust as a young child and later escaping Communist rule. Arriving in Australia in 1957 with no family and little knowledge of English, Peter rebuilt his life from nothing. Through grit and determination, he co-founded Seafolly with Yvonne, transforming it into an iconic Australian swimwear brand while creating a strong family legacy.
Together, their stories illuminate the power of perseverance, the courage to rebuild after unimaginable loss, and the ways in which hope can transform adversity into opportunity.
Join us and be inspired by Yvonne and Peter’s remarkable journey.
