Rabbi Gabi Kaltmann is the Rabbi of the Ark Centre, a Jewish community centre with a synagogue in the middle. In addition to holding a Masters of Social Work from Deakin University, Rabbi Gabi is an AFL Multicultural Ambassador, the chairman of the Melbourne Fightback Against Parkinsons charity, an advisor to the Scanlon Foundation Research Advisory committee and a representative to the Coronial Council of Victoria Reference Group. He is also a Western Health chaplain and a Member of Spirit Health Victoria.
Rabbi Gabi cares deeply about interfaith work, having founded the Pillars of Light multicultural Hannukah celebration, that received Government funding from the Premier of Victoria. Each year, over 8 nights of Hannukah, tens of thousands of people visit the festival and participate in its activities which promote tolerance, harmony and dialogue. In 2023 he was appointed to the board of the Victorian Equal Opportunities Human Rights Commission. Together with his wife Mushka and their five children, Rabbi Gabi lives in Melbourne and is a long-suffering Collingwood supporter.
