Jonathan Iadarola is a committed young leader who is extremely dedicated to the Adelaide Jewish Community and its future. A current student at the University of Adelaide, Jonathan’s impactful journey began through his desire to establish a Jewish club on his campus and for his strong advocacy against various antisemitic and anti-Israel articles that were published in his university’s magazine. Through his involvement, the editor of these notorious articles was successfully dismissed from their position.

Jonathan successfully helped create the Adelaide University Jewish Students’ Society and re-establish the South Australian branch of the Australasian Union of Jewish Students after its absence in South Australia for over a decade. He has served as the 2023 President of the Adelaide University Students’ Society (AUJSS) and the Australasian Union of Jewish Students South Australia. In this role, he has advocated for Jewish students in South Australia and been able to create a safe and welcoming hub on campus for Jewish students to be able to be proudly Jewish and feel empowered in their identity. Throughout the past year, Jonathan has organised various social, cultural, and political events for Adelaide’s Jewish University Community including Shabbat Dinners on Campus, movie and game nights, and cross-community collaborations for Jewish holidays.

As a rising leader in the Australian Jewish community, Jonathan understands the importance of instilling a strong sense of Jewish and Zionist identity in the future leaders of our community and is driven to be able to help in this process. This is displayed in his experience as a Madrich for camps at Hineni Youth and Welfare, despite living in Adelaide, and being the only Madrich from Adelaide, in the final Yalla Israel trip in January 2024 by Youth 2 Israel.

Jonathan has recently been accepted to be in the third cohort of the B’nai B’rith and WUJS IMPACT: Emerging Leaders Fellowship, is a member of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry’s Jewish Advocacy and Leadership Corps and was chosen to represent Australia as a member on the Campus Global Board for the American Jewish Committee in the 2023-2024 cohort.
