Hendi is 14 years old and is involved in numerous types of volunteer work in both the Jewish and local communities.
Hendi is a qualified volunteer Surf Life Saver with the Bondi Surf Club. She regularly patrols at Bondi Beach and assists in providing Water Safety for the Nippers Program. In a country surrounded by water, she is passionate about young children being safe in the water. She has performed a number of rescues both in the ocean and swimming pool.
Hendi is passionate about Jewish education and continuity. She has volunteered for a number of years at The Central Synagogue and is currently the Youth Leader of the 6-12 years old group, responsible for delivering an engaging program during Friday Night and Saturday services. The kids love her, and she does an amazing job! Hendi also assists at JEMS as the Year K Assistant Teacher, every afternoon after school. At JEMS, she helps ensure that children who attend public schools learn about Jewish holidays and to read Hebrew and are part of the Jewish community.
Hendi has a passion for helping Indigenous Australians. She frequently collects donation of clothing, shoes and toys for Indigenous communities in Outback NSW. She has travelled to Brewarrina several times to ensure the distribution of these donations and assist the children in these types of communities.
Hendi is also deeply passionate about helping people experiencing disadvantage and/or homelessness. On weekends, Hendi assists with collections of food donations from FoodBank, which she personally distributes to people experiencing homelessness around Sydney.
Hendi is always volunteering somewhere… between the Surf Club, the Synagogue, JEMS or collecting and distributing donations of food or clothing as part of her own initiatives. Her level of commitment to both the Jewish and local community is truly unique, especially at such a young age. I truly believe she deserved recognition for the work she does so quietly and humbly.
