Binyomin Joseph is a 14-year-old boy who had an entrepreneurial idea, a year ago, to start a mobile hot chips business. He borrowed money from his parents to buy his first deep fryer and supplies, became certified under Kosher Australia, made a pop-up sale from his driveway at home, was able to pay back his expenses and then buy a second deep fryer to use for future events. Bini physically works extremely hard when catering for an event. He has to plan, know how many people he is catering for, make sure he has the right amount of equipment /supplies and give a quote for a job. Bini’s business is called King of Chips. His chips have become very well liked and popular in the Jewish community. He has made chips at Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties and other functions and has worked for event organisers, e.g. Avi Jacobs. Bini also volunteers and helps cook at the Yeshivah College cafeteria during many lunchtimes. People are astounded by what he has already achieved at his age. Bini has demonstrated leadership skills as he sometimes has friends work for and help him at events and he has to pay them. Bini has had to guide his friends as to how to interact with the public and customers. Last December Bini was determined to have a hot chips stall at the communal Chanukah at Caulfield Racecourse event. Bini had to go through a registration and accreditation process to be able to do this. Bini also organised a group of friends to complete a Food Safety course with him so that they could all help him on the day. King Of Chips recently had a stall at the Lag B’Omer Jewish Unity event at Caulfield Racecourse. Hundreds of Jewish community members bought the chips and Bini received a lot of positive feedback. Bini has encountered hiccups along the way but has demonstrated resilience and determination to succeed and slowly build his business. Bini has been an inspiration to his peers, and he also mentored and voluntarily guided another boy who tried to start his own pizza making business. Bini’s long-term dream and goal is to one day be able to purchase a food trailer to use for setting up his mobile hot chips business. Bini has shown his family, teachers, friends and community members the importance of using one’s skills, doing things that you enjoy, following dreams and that one can never be too young to begin. |
