Aliza is a prominent member of Sydney’s Jewish musical scene.

She is a talented singer well known for leading the Emanuel Synagogue Shabbat Live services, which were streamed nationally and internationally during COVID, bringing light and hope to thousands of Jews worldwide during lockdown.

Aliza is a member of the executive committee of SHIR, the Australian Jewish Music Festival. She serves as Production Manager, liaising with venues and artists to create a collate and deliver technical requirements necessary for large scale shows. She is currently preparing for SHIR’s first major event, Songs of Hope, on Sunday 6th October. This concert was created expressly to give hope to the Sydney Jewish community, a year after the October 7th massacre, and to uplift and strengthen it.

Aliza does all this work voluntarily, balancing it around her paid employment. Aliza is also the longest serving committee member of SHIR, having volunteered and worked for its predecessor, Shir Madness, almost a decade ago.

Aliza also serves as CHUTNEY’s manager. CHUTNEY is Australia’s leading klezmer fusion band, and Aliza ensures that they are able to provide the emotional sustenance called for by the Jewish community by negotiating with both the band and presenters. CHUTNEY’s continued presence at Jewish communal events (often at discounted rates), as well as CHUTNEY’s commitment to performing outside the Jewish community (including regional touring and at music festivals) as a means to build bridges and combat antisemitism, is a testament to Aliza’s leadership, passion and negotiation skills.

Aliza is a devoted and compassionate advocate for Jewish identity and Israel, and is proud to contribute so strongly to Sydney’s Jewish community.
