Commemorating Joe Krycer z”l  (1948 – 2024)

About Joe Krycer

This page is dedicated to the memory of Joe Krycer – a true Zionist and a prominent figure in the Australian Jewish community.

Joe was an outstanding JNF Executive Director and  well- loved by the JNF family.

During his 17 years in this role, Joe worked tirelessly to support life-changing projects. He organised numerous missions to Israel, fostered strong connections and made lifelong friends.

Joe was actively involved in the Victorian Jewish Board of Deputies (now Jewish Community Council of Victoria) and B’nai B’rith, advocating for the freedom of Soviet and Ethiopian Jewry.

Joe’s leadership and passion for Israel and Jewish causes were evident in his work and personal life. He was celebrated for his innovative approaches, environmental efforts, and dedication to mentoring future communal leaders

His legacy includes a strong commitment to Zionism and a profound impact on the Jewish community in both Australia and Israel.

A memorial will be erected in the Australia Park at Misgav, Israel– a forest that was established in 1988 with the generous support of the Australian Jewish Community.

“Joe had ardour and passion, sensitivity and stubbornness.  He was obsessed with the Shoah…He was a history buff and a Zionist who would have made Aliya decades ago, but …I wouldn’t leave my parents and so Australia was our home, until in 2015 we truly did come home, to Jerusalem and our children.”   Anna Krycer
